Associate Scientist
Shivani Sahni, PhD, has been named a member of the Class of 2025 of the Fellows of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the leading professional, scientific, and medical society established to bring together clinical and experimental scientists involved in the study of bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal research.
Established in 2018, the Fellow of the ASBMR designation recognizes long-term members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of bone and mineral science and have published research in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research (JBMR®) and/or JBMR® Plus. Nominated by their peers, evaluated and selected by a review committee, and approved by the ASBMR council, 29 other leading researchers join Sahni in this year’s class.
An associate scientist at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife and an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, Sahni is a nutritional epidemiologist with expertise in determining the role of nutritional factors in chronic diseases of aging, such as osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and frailty. Since diet is a modifiable risk factor, her research work has a direct impact on the prevention of these musculoskeletal diseases and their consequences among older adults.
Sahni directs the Nutrition Program and co-directs the Musculoskeletal Research Center at the Marcus Institute. She has held several leadership positions with ASBMR, including currently serving as a member of its Nutrition Working Group and the Membership and Engagement Committee. She has previously served on ASBMR’s Advocacy and Science Policy Committee.
“Dr. Sahni’s being named a Fellow from among ASBMR’s impressive membership is a significant honor, and her well-deserved recognition continues to validate the gerontology research we conduct and the scientists who lead the way at the Marcus Institute,” said Lewis Lipsitz, MD, director of the Marcus Institute.
A formal welcoming event for the Class of 2025 Fellows will be held at the ASBMR’s annual conference, scheduled September 5-8 in Seattle.
